The making of this product is done in Oslo, Norway. Ingrid Pettersson is a young Norwegian designer, and her forte is the way she makes her own twist and turns with otherwise clean or straight cut materials. Your product is handcrafted in her studio.
By doing all her production in Norway, and sourcing her materials as close to home as possible, Ingrid Pettersson saves a lot of travel miles and carbon emissions in the production process.
TENCEL™ is a branded lyocell fiber from the Lenzing group. The fibers are mainly manufactured from the renewable raw material beech wood, sourced from sustainable forests. Moreover, wood and pulp used by the Lenzing Group comes from natural forests and sustainably managed plantations.
Lyocell fiber is eco-friendly since it can easily be recycled, and is biodegradable. The fiber will usually degrade completely in just eight days in waste treatment plants. We do however not mark Tencel/Lyocell products as biodegradable as long as the colouring process is not certified chemical free, and recommend returning it at a recycling facility sometime in the future when your product is dead.
This products does not contain any animal material or by-product from animals.
The making of Tencel uses much less water than other textiles in the manufacturing process.
The MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for lyocell/ Tencel rates the amine oxide solvent used to digest the wood pulp as being non-toxic, and about 99% is recovered and recycled during the manufacturing process. Waste products in the air and water from the manufacturing process are minimal, and considered harmless. The process to manufacture Lyocell fiber is in fact very nearly a closed loop process in which bleach is not required.
