The sourcing is made from European manufacturers, even though some of them have their raw material production further away with some of the other selected raw materials. No production is done outside of Europe, it is either sawn in their studio in Sweden or in one of two production collaborators in Lithuania and Portugal. This saves travel miles and reduces their carbon footprint. All their sampling and prototypes are also made in-house locally, which skips the process of sending items back and forth.

Reducing waste with Made to Order

Reducing waste with pattern construction

Novanne Jhons focuses on highly innovative patterns, creating smart design in order to minimize waste. They collect any leftovers, upcycling it into limited collection, handcrafted accessories or one-off garments.

Recyclable

Novanne Jhons have a plan laid out for their customers on how to treat the product in the best way over time, and how to dismantle and get rid of it somewhere far ahead in the future. As they’ve made this commitment, it has also made them more aware of not choosing mixed materials or materials that make the recycling process hard for their customers. They also encourage their customers to apply the `Reuse, resell or recycle` model, and by the end of 2022, they will have a new system applied, where they can take back used garment to take care of the recycling/upcycling themselves.

Cupro as raw material

Cupro is derived from an often overlooked part of the cotton plant: cotton linter, which are by-product of the industrial harvest of cotton (waste fibers too small to spin). Before Cupro, cotton linter was often discarded as an unusable bit of cotton. Cupro is made using a solution including copper sulfate and aqueous ammonia. It  is produced in a ‘closed loop’ which means the chemicals used can be extracted after and the water reused and therefore have a lower environmental impact.

Good features

  • Cupro is very efficient in moderating moisture in absorption and release. The fiber has very tiny pores that absorb moisture quickly and just as quickly release it again. This is great news for comfort, body odor, and wash cycles.
  • Cupro is great for temperature regulation. To keep you cool in summer, moisture absorbed by the fibers pulls your body heat to the outside where it is released. In cold environments, Cupro can retain your body heat, again utilizing the water absorbed by the fibers as a regulator.
  • Cupro is antistatic, unlike silk. The moisture in the fibers prevents static electricity from collecting and building up.
  • Cupro is very forgiving to sensitive skin. In fact, studies have found that Cupro is more agreeable for people with sensitive skin than silk.

Certified by the Global Recycle Standard

Cupro is now certified by the Global Recycle Standard. GRS is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions. It certifies every part of the production, from ginning, spinning, weaving and knitting to dyeing, printing and stitching.

Sustainable Packaging

Novanne Jhons only use biodegradable paper-based packaging and FSC certified boxes, tissue, tape, stickers and hangtags. They also always ask their suppliers to reduce the usage of plastic bags when sending samples.
