How its made
Excellent working conditions
Your product is handcrafted in Marrakech in Morocco. Every worker is paid fair wages, and an important part of Bouroug’s core is also to empower the artisanal community here. They also do skill acquisition programs, and make sure the heritage and craft is strengthened though every piece that is created.
Supporting Traditional Skills
This product is, as mentioned above, handcrafted in Morocco by skilled and committed artisans, using age-old techniques, which are passed down to them by their ancestors. This way of doing production supports craftsmanship that in many ways is about to be forgotten. Instead the know-how of how to create unique items in high quality is elevated and supported.
Reducing waste with Made to Order
By producing in small batches and on demand, Bougroug saves the environment from overproduction.
Reducing Waste by use of Roll End Fabric
The fashion industry is renowned for the excess it creates. To combat this Bougroug buy unused ‘roll end’ fabric (also called Dead Stock Material) from larger productions taking place in Morocco for major fashion brands. Although these fabrics may have been produced using environmentally damaging methods it is better to let them come into use, than going to a landfill somewhere.
Bougroug use whatever fabric is left on the rolls until it runs out. Consequently their pieces are not available forever in the same type of material, while the design piece itself can be continued forever.
Low carbon footprint
By doing their production locally and sourcing their raw material from the same location in Morocco, Bougroug uses less energy and reduce their footprint both in regards to travel miles and in regards to the production process.
Made to Last
Your garment has been carefully considered from start to finish: from the initial design, to the sourcing, sampling, production and distribution of every item. Bougroug deliver exquisite quality, and do not believe in fast pace fashion. They do produce for the sake of production, and the goal is always to create design that transcend time and season. That’s also why all products are simultaneously available at any given time, and made in small batches or at demand.
Fighting for gender equality
Bougroug also use their design to challenge toxic masculinity in Morocco. For Anwar it is of real importance to fight stereotypes in regards to how we dress and what it means to be “a woman” or “a man”. As a Scandinavian-Moroccan he has lived in between two cultures with different view when it comes to freedom of expression. Anwar says that he wish to create design that feels like a mix of masculine and feminine, in such a way that it is positioned in between Men’s and Womenswear. He wants everybody to be able to wear what ever they want, and strive to push forward conversations around gender equality, and sexuality. We see this fight as a support for all beings, as we should always be able to express what we are in our core.
