Supporting traditional skills

All products are made in the designers studio in the Netherlands by skilled tailors and Elsien herself. This way they are able to support and create work for a craftsmanship that in many ways is about to be forgotten. To choose this way of producing, Elsien is supporting local craftsmen, and are giving economic growth to her community.

Excellent working conditions

All tailors get fair pay for their work. The working process with the workers are close and open, and Elsien knows them all personally.

Reducing waste with Made to Order

All items are produced, on demand, not before you order them, which also saves the environment from overproduction

Elsien also focuses on highly innovative patterns, reducing the waste to the max. All Elsien Gringhuis’ design is built on the No Waste principle, trying to make a result of nearly no waste at all.

Low Carbon Footprint

By doing all her production in Holland, and sourcing her materials as close to home as possible, Elsien Gringhuis saves a lot of travel miles and carbon emissions in the production process.

Low Toxic

The only part of this product where there is used chemicals is the viscose. Viscose is in general a great quality material to use for lining, as it is high quality and lasts through wear and tear. We will however work towards shifting the use of viscose to Tencel, which is a raw material with many of the same qualities, but with less impact on earth in its production. For now we can say that with this viscose, all coloring is controlled and done with use of minimal use of chemicals.

Party organic

A part of this product is organic and grown in compliance with organic agricultural standards that protect the environment and wildlife. Natural methods are used to manage soil quality, diseases, and other issues that arise during the farming process. It is not made with use of synthetic fertilizers or herbicides that strip land of nutrients, and artificial chemicals and GM (Genetically Modified) crops are banned.

Organic products do not produce sewage sludge or ionizing radiation, and the organic materials have been sourced with use of natural pesticides. The treatment of the material is also chemical free and holistic.
The part of the product which is organic can be biodegraded.

Use of Fair Wool

The term Fair Wool often implies use of smaller suppliers of raw material, who are not large enough to get certified with standards like GOTS (the largest organic material certifier in the world). In this case the wool is from a small supplier in Austria. There is a close relationship between the farmer and animals, which also grantst this product with the symbol of Animal Welfare. The part of the product which is fair wool is free from chemicals and can be biodegraded.
