All products are made by local Icelandic craftsmen and women
IIIF work with independent contractors, like leather-goods producer Freya who make the bags, and Þórhallur who makes the antler pieces. They know traditional methods of harvesting and treating the raw material with care and respect. They also make sure to use every possible inch of the raw material.
IIIF have a close process with all collaborators from design to finished product, and takes the craftsmen into their production all the way. To have this close relationship is a prerequisite for IIIF.
All antlers are treated with an old tecnique where they are boiled in a calcium/water solvent, which is an ancient method to work with antlers. Before cutting the antlers Þórhallur boils them in a calcium/water solvent. The boiling makes the antlers easier to cut and polish, and in addition they become more water resistant. No harmful substances are used.
All jewelry is made of reindeer antlers sources on Iceland. Antlers are the branching, bony looking crowns you see on the heads of reindeers. Both females and males grow them. IIIF’s craftsman Þórhallur, work in the East Icelandic highlands and stumble across antlers that have fallen naturally off the reindeer’s heads. The male loses his antlers in the autumn and the females’ fall off in the spring.
Through their work with Icelandic artisans and hunters who want to use both what they can source from nature, and all of the material that they harvest, IIIF are helping reducing waste.
