how it's made

1 % from each product goes to Nepal

A/BARENESS collaborates with a local Nepali company called “SmartPaani” in order to better the conditions at the Maya Universe Academy, the first and only free private school in Nepal. They’ve got 5 local teachers and about 10 volunteer. In addition there is about 8 of the children’s parents contributing at the school every day. The company also contribute with educational presentations & workshops for the pupils and their families, teachers and volunteers at MUA to grow knowledge and spread awareness about the importance of sustainable water systems for a sustainable future.

Water projects in 2018

After the earthquake hit Nepal, there has been a lot to rebuild. A/BARENESS quickly started campaigns to collect money for new water systems, to give clean water to children at schools in Kathmandu. So far they have managed to get new systems at 7 schools, and each time you support them, they get closer to one more. The water systems save the school a lot of time, energy and money, which then can be used for teaching instead. Now some of the schools even supply the neightborhood with clean water.

Supporting education

A/BARENESS believes that by supporting Maya Universe Academy, the school management can focus on what is more important- providing quality education for the kids, giving the new generation in Nepal a great fundament of skills and knowledge.

Use of traditional Nepali handicraft

One of the A/BARENESS missions is to work mainly with Nepal and to implement different techniques of traditional Nepali handicraft in both Textile and Non-textile products, such as their handspun yarn designs, the metal craft of their jewelry line, their various handmade lokta paper tags & business cards and their hand carved display items made of bone and horn from domesticated water buffaloes.

Know their factory workers and care for them in an extensive way

A/BARENESS are continuously working closely with the managements to achieve their goals when it comes to improving the production sites & ethical welfare of the employees, making sure they get paid living wage, get their time off and are heard in the company. ln the future they aim to continue and implement this work throughout their supply chain, one step at the time. A/BARENESS is as much present as possible in Nepal, at their 1st suppliers production facilities, where they can come and go as they please.

Water saving

In addition to the water cleaning project at schools, both factories have containers to harvest rainwater. This project is ment to grow during 2017 to increase the amount of harvesting by investing in more containers.

care

How to clean

From time to time you can do the following to make your jewelry seem like new again:

  1. 1 cup of  warm water + 1/2 teaspoon table salt + juice from 1/2 lemon
  2. Stir until the salt has dissolved
  3. Put the brass jewellery in the mixture and remove it when it has reached the desired look
  4. Dry off with a towel. Be careful to dry it well, as water can leave spots

Storing and other smart tips

Abareness’ jewellery can live for generations if you take care of it properly.

  • Store your jewellery in the A/BARENESS cotton bag or in a jewellery box when not in use. Then you prevent oxidation of the metal. This process makes the metal darker. Some actually prefer the darker variant. If you get tired of it, you can just use some jewelry polish and it is as good as new again.
  • Don’t sleep with your jewellery
  • Apply perfume before you put on your jewellery. It can influence the color.
